Excel Hockey School History - 2007

This is the 29th year for the largest and longest running hockey school in Saskatoon. Starting in 1980 as the Seymour King Hockey School, it was operated by Dave King and Bill Seymour for ten years (both former teachers and Huskie hockey coaches). Bill spent many years coaching Saskatoon minor hockey from Midget AAA to the U of S Huskies. Today he is the Athletic Director at the University of Saskatchewan. Dave coached the Huskies for 4 years, Canada's National Team for the 1988 and 1992 Winter Olympics and the Calgary Flames for three years. After two years as a consultant for the Japanese Ice Hockey Federation, Dave has coached the Montreal Canadiens and was the first head coach of the expansion Columbus Blue Jackets in the NHL until January 2003. Following two years as head coach in the Russian Elite team, Dave has now taken over as the head coach of the Adler Monheim Eagles in Germany.

Into the 1990's, the school took on a new name under the leadership of Bruce Bradshaw, a former U of S Huskie from the 'Dave King' years. Each year saw improvement in the curriculum and the implementation of new ideas. Many of the Excel instructors have returned annually to teach in the school which has truly been an asset to the program. Following Bruce Bradshaw came the son of Bill Seymour, Dean who coordinated the school for four years.

The year 2000 saw a change in leadership when Bob Braybrook took over. Bob, served as program co-ordinator and admisitrator until 2006 when he passed the administrative duties over to Shaun Priel. Shaun has also been involved with the Hockey school since the early days of Seymour-King School as a participant and more recently as an instructor for the past seven years.

Excel Hockey school prides itself on being the longest running and largest summer hockey school Saskatoon has to offer. We believe the strength of the school comes in a strong curriculum combined with excellent instruction and FUN for the kids. Each year we have a few new instructors who work with the experience of many who return annually.
